  • Documents: Gun found on Loyd used in Clayton, Dixon killings
  • Gun was a Smith & Wesson .40 caliber firearm

Markeith Loyd is accused of killing them. The documents say Loyd was found with the gun, a Smith & Wesson .40 caliber firearm, when he was arrested.

State Attorney Brad King released the documents, which offer new details about the case.

The documents say Dixon and Loyd got into an argument in front of Dixon's home on Dec. 13, 2016. Loyd allegedly accused Dixon of cheating on him and smoking while pregnant.

The argument reportedly escalated when Dixon's brother, Ronald Stewart, tried to pull his sister away from Loyd. Investigators say Loyd shot Stewart and Dixon repeatedly.

Investigators say Dixon's family ran outside when they heard gunshots and saw Loyd running to his vehicle. They say Loyd fired several rounds at the family members as they tried to help Stewart and Dixon.

Crime scene investigators found 11 .40 caliber spent shell casings in the yard.

Loyd is then accused of killing Lt. Debra Clayton on Jan. 9 at the Walmart on John Young Parkway and Princeton Street, after Clayton confronted him. A witness pointed Loyd out to Clayton as a wanted suspect.

The court documents show Clayton requested backup, then confronted Loyd and told him to get on the ground. Loyd is accused of shooting Clayton multiple times. Crime scene investigators found several .40 caliber shell casings at the scene, along with the bullet that hit Clayton.

Loyd was arrested on Jan. 17.
