West Orange High students hospitalized after eating gummy bears

Five West Orange High School students required medical attention Friday morning after eating gummy bears that might have been laced with an illegal substance, the school district has confirmed.

The conditions of the students are not known.

Orange County and Winter Garden Fire Rescue and the Orange County Sheriff's Office responded to the school and took multiple patients to hospitals at about 9:41 a.m. and 10:24 a.m.

Principal William J. Floyd said in a message sent to families that the school is working with law enforcement in an investigation, and "appropriate discipline will be administered," he said.

"As always, the safety and security of our students is our top priority," Floyd said.
