The White House is denying a report by The New York Times that President Donald Trump asked former FBI Director James Comey to end an investigation into national security adviser Michael Flynn.

In a statement from its press office, the White House said Tuesday that "the President has never asked Mr. Comey or anyone else to end any investigation, including any investigation involving General Flynn."

On Tuesday, The Times published a story on its website saying that Trump asked Comey to end an FBI investigation into Flynn during a February meeting in the Oval Office. The newspaper cited a memo Comey wrote shortly after the meeting, which The Times said could be held up in court as credible evidence of a conversation.

“I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go,” Trump told Comey, according to the memo, the newspaper reported.

Flynn was fired in February after it was determined he misled officials about his contacts with Russia.

The Times report comes just one day after the Washington Post reported that Trump had revealed highly classified information to Russian officials during a meeting last week.
