"It is with a heavy heart that we must announce our loving father, Sir Roger Moore, has passed away today in Switzerland after a short but brave battle with cancer," his children Deborah, Geoffrey and Christian stated.

Moore's children said that the legendary actor was still active either on the stage or in front of a camera, but his last appearance was in November 2016 at London's Royal Festival Hall.

He took over the "007" role in 1973 after Sean Connery tired of it, starring in seven Bond films: “Live and Let Die,” “The Man With the Golden Gun,” ″The Spy Who Loved Me,” ″Octopussy,” ″Moonraker,” ″For Your Eyes Only and “A View to a Kill.”

There will be a private funeral for Moore in Monaco.
