FEMA now has a director.

The Senate confirmed Brock Long as the new director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency by a vote of 95-4.

  • Brock Long confirmed as FEMA director by Senate
  • Long is a former Alabama Emergency Manager, FEMA Regional Hurricane Planner

Long previously ran Alabama's Emergency Management Agency. He was the state's incident commander during the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in 2010.

Long was also a FEMA Regional Hurricane Planner.

He is currently executive vice president of Hagerty Consulting, which offers emergency preparation and recovery services.

Long takes over the agency at the beginning of hurricane season. The agency has already managed 41 disaster declarations this year.

The Trump administration has also proposed cutting nearly $1 billion from the agency's budget.

More than $500 million in proposed cuts would come from FEMA's grant programs, including the grants for pre-disaster mitigation efforts.
