Former Apopka Middle School teacher Kim Honaker was first accused of inappropriate conduct in 2014, when she was working as a language arts teacher at Apopka Middle School.

That's when she was accused of working with a family friend, Robert Pruitt, to repeatedly sexually molest a 13-year-old girl.

Initially Honaker was arrested and charged, but the charges were dropped and she was sentenced on charges of neglect.

She's now asking to be allowed to teach again.

Honaker's attorney said the charges made against her were false, and Pruitt, who confessed to the crimes, had a history of mental illness and made it all up.

Upon seeing dozens of sexually explicit Facebook messages about the victim exchanged between Honaker and Pruitt, school boardmembers agreed there was doubt about her ability to teach students in Orange County again.

"This is not someone who I want to be in charge of a classroom that my child or my grandchild is in," said Orange County School Boardmember Joie Cadle.

The decision Thursday isn't totally final however, the board will have to vote on Honaker's termination of her teaching contract once more during their next official board meeting.
