This week, we’re focusing on the intersection of Little Lake Bryan Parkway and International Drive — and it’s not the first complaint we’ve received from that area.

  • Intersection of Little Lake Bryan Parkway, I-Drive confuses drivers
  • Residents in area say median at intersection is dangerous
  • Orange County says it will conduct a field study

"I think they need a traffic signal here. Constantly, cars are getting stuck in the intersection because they need to cross over heavy traffic, which makes the traffic even worse and there are wrecks here! Can something be done?"

So we went shopping for answers near the Premium Outlets.

This stretch of International Drive is just south of the shopping area and home to several apartment complexes populated by theme park workers, and it’s one of the main residence hubs for the Disney College Program.

Some area residents say that the median at this intersection is too dangerous, because during peak traffic times, you have different types of vehicles, including large buses, going in many different directions, causing accidents and major traffic jams.

In fact, while we were there, we saw several instances of confused drivers. A few had literally just stopped in the middle of the road, not even in the median.

Some frustrated residents have asked for some sort of traffic control device, especially for those peak times when congestion can be a big problem.

We contacted Orange County government, which said that upon our request, it will start an evaluation of the area next week. The first step is to conduct a field study and approach count. If those numbers are high enough, it will then conduct a warrant study that will take about six weeks to complete. After that, there should be more clarity as to what the area can expect in terms of improvements.
