After popular bridal retailer Alfred Angelo filed for bankruptcy last week and left brides without wedding dresses, former brides have been using social media to donate their dresses.

Thousands of brides such as Amber McGraw had already found their perfect dress and paid for it at Alfred Angelo, only to find the dress was missing when the company shut its doors.

She made several posts about her situation on Twitter like this one:

Shortly afterward, she said a woman contacted her on Facebook offering to donate a wedding dress free of charge.

"Within a few hours of me tweeting online saying I lost my dress, I had a dozen people contact me to try and give me their dress," McGraw told News 13.

"I thought it was just me at first until I started checking out the hashtag "dress matchmaker," and it's dozens and hundreds of women offering their bridesmaid dresses and wedding dress. And it just makes my heart so filled to see everyone come together," she added.

On Wednesday, McGraw tweeted that her replacement dress had arrived.

This trend has caught on under the hashtag. Brides impacted by the retailer's closing can use the hashtag to "shop" online for dresses offered for donation by other women.
