Another day of heavy rain led to flash flooding in parts of the metro Orlando area Thursday.

When the Tarnowski family saw the glow of headlights from inside their Williamsburg home, they knew something was up.

“It’s rained hard recently but not like this," Jan Tarnowski said.

What the Tarnowskis experienced was flash flooding on Orangewood Boulevard near SeaWorld in Orange County.

The stagnant water created a rough commute during rush hour.

“We’ve seen it before but this seems to be probably within the top two of flooding. The last time was probably either a hurricane or a tropical storm, not just regular rain," Tarnowski explained.

The Tarnowski family has lived in the area for more than 20 years but Thursday night's flash flood is an experience they will never forget.

“It looked like a lake to me. Oh wow, lakefront property across the street," Tarnowski said with a smile on her face.

Public works crews were able to stop by and clean out a major drain, which alleviated the flooding.

Friday's forecast

Thursday started out quiet with plenty of sunshine, but showers and storms quickly started developing during the afternoon. Temperatures made it back into the low 90s, but cooled down as the rain rolled though. High rain chances remain for the end of our work week with temperatures staying hot.

Partly cloudy are in the forecast through the overnight hours. Temperatures will be warm and muggy, dropping into the mid-70s.

The end of our work week will be a spitting image of what we’ve seen the past few days. A quiet start as temperatures heat up into the 90s, then afternoon showers and storms. Rain chances will stick around for the weekend, but drop back slightly. High heat and humidity stick around.

Things in the tropics remain fairly quiet with no development expected over at least the next five to seven days.

If you have beach or boating plans for Friday, watch for developing storms. There will also be a moderate rip current risk.
