The Lake County Sheriff's Office is investigating a fatal shooting overnight in Mt. Dora.

  • One killed, one injured during shooting in Mt. Dora
  • 21-year-old found dead inside car
  • Injured victim found nearby
  • Deputies believe shooting related to nearby "rave" party

Deputies said one man was killed during the shooting and another was injured.

The sheriff's office received a call around 2:30 a.m. regarding a possible shooting in the area of the 2000 block of Sheridan Road in Mt. Dora.

Deputies found two black males suffering from gunshot wounds. Steven Charlostin, 21, was found deceased in a car and the other male was found nearby with a gunshot wound. He was transported to Orlando Regional Medical Center. Charlostin was last listed in stable but critical condition.

Detectives believe the shooting is related to a large "rave" party that was held nearby at Mieluz Grand Hall, an event venue in a strip plaza. Authorities say they believe they are connected due to the vicinity of the crime to the rave, the timing, and the fact that most of the attendees at the rave were from outside of Lake County and the victims in the shooting are not from the area.

It was estimated that the rave party was attended by up to 500-1000 people who were mostly bused in from areas outside Lake County, such as Orlando and Orange County, officials said.

"Everybody having a good time, everybody safe nothing happened," said Darius Kerrison who was at Mieluz on Friday and is hosting an event at the venue Saturday. "Everything was good from my understanding. The person who owns this did they did everything they were supposed to do, there were multiple officers from all around the area they did their jobs everyone was out of here by 2 a.m., maybe 230 a.m."

Mount Dora city officials say there were some fights in the parking lot but no one was arrested.

They say they are aware of the party Saturday night and say there will be extra patrols in the area monitoring and patrolling the parking lots around it.

Detectives said the vehicle the deceased victim was found in was reported stolen from the Tampa area.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office is working with the Tampa Police Department regarding details of the theft.
