The Clearwater man charged in the deaths of 10 migrants who died in the back of a sweltering tractor-trailer at a San Antonio Walmart had had his Florida commercial driver's license revoked in April, the Associated Press reports.

A spokeswoman for the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles confirmed to the AP on Tuesday that James Bradley Jr.'s commercial driving privileges had been disqualified because he didn't submit an updated medical card, a federal requirement.

The spokeswoman also said it would have been illegal for Bradley to have a second commercial license from another state.

Bradley was issued a commercial driver's license in Florida in 2004, AP said. He's been ticketed multiple times in the past, some for driving too long without rest.

Bradley is charged with illegally transporting immigrants for financial gain resulting in death. He could face the death penalty. He's said he didn't know people were inside the trailer.
