A redesign is coming to Florida driver's licenses and identification cards.

Starting next month, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles will begin issuing the revamped driver's licenses and IDs at select Florida service centers.

Orange County will see the new cards in October.

If you have an old card, you're not required to change it until it expires, according to the agency.

The front of the new cards features the state seal in the background, with the letters "FL" in large, red lettering over top of the seal. Also, the type of license — commercial, learner's, driver's or ID card, for example — will be color-coded. If applicable, a sexual-predator/sexual-offender identifier will be printed in blue on the front.

The back of the new cards has an outline of the state and the year 1845, which is when Florida became the 27th state. The person's picture, which will no longer have the teal background but will be a cutout, will appear in four locations on the card.

There are also new icons on both sides depicting various statuses, such as organ donor, lifetime boater and veteran, among others.

As for fraud protection, some images on the front of the card are printed in ultraviolet ink and fluoresce under UV light. There's a star in the upper right of the card designating that it's compliant with the federal Real ID program. On the back are two barcodes and a magnetic strip.

The new licenses and IDs are being gradually rolled out and should be available at all centers and online at GoRenew.com by the end of the year, the agency says.

Florida last updated its driver's license and ID card in 2003.
