Social media has been full of discussion and debate on the announcement, with many transgender people are giving their opinion on Twitter.
And one of those people is former Olympian and reality TV show star Caitlyn Jenner, a transgender Trump supporter:
There are 15,000 patriotic transgender Americans in the US military fighting for all of us. What happened to your promise to fight for them? https://t.co/WzjypVC8Sr

Jenner also published a response on her website about the president's decision to ban transgender people from serving in the military.
"Transgender people have served this country honorably for decades. In fact, studies show that transgender people are more likely to enlist in the military than the general population — and it’s estimated there are approximately 134,000 transgender veterans in the U.S. today," Jenner wrote.
One person taking a lot of heat for the decision is the president's daughter Ivanka Trump. Last month she tweeted:
I am proud to support my LGBTQ friends and the LGBTQ Americans who have made immense contributions to our society and economy.

However, she has been silent about the transgender military ban.
As a senior adviser to the president, many are calling on her to stand up and speak out against her father's decision.
