  • Hospital records show $6,395 worth of missing medication

Matthew Kaye, 45, of Port Orange, was employed at the hospital's Radiology Oncology Center at the time.

Police said they were notified of the theft in June. The pharmacy director told investigators he discovered at least 750 doses of dilaudid were missing, a police report said.

The pharmacy director informed Kaye of the missing medication and he admitted to taking vials of dilaudid. He was placed on administrative leave and given a drug test, per hospital policy. Kaye was later fired.

Hospital records show that $6,395 worth of medication were dispensed from the pharmacy, but never given to patients. The medications went missing between July 2016 and June 2017 and included hydrocodone, lorazepam, oxycodone and hydromorphone.

On Wednesday, Kaye was arrested and charged with theft of a controlled substance and trafficking in hydromorphone.
