A murder charge has been filed against the man accused of killing a Citrus County woman during a hit-and-run crash in Sumter County.

  • Laura Price was killed in a hit-and-run crash Tuesday
  • Anthony Brown charged with the crash
  • Deputies, FHP searching for second suspect

The victim's husband is questioning how this could have happened to the love of his life.

"When she said 'yes' I couldn't believe it. I was besides myself," recalled the victim's husband, Jack Price.

After five years of marriage, Laura and Jack Price had already made it through in sickness and in health.

Last year, 55-year-old Laura quit her job to care for her husband in Inverness while he was recovering from a traumatic brain injury.

Now Laura is gone, the victim of a hit-and-run crash.

"She was a beautiful spirit. One of the most beautiful people you will ever run across," Jack Price said.

The Florida Highway Patrol said 27-year-old Anthony Brown was speeding away from police after a traffic stop in Wildwood Tuesday afternoon.

Brown was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving a death, providing false information, felony murder, driving with a revoked license, as well as fleeing and eluding.

After the crash, investigators found an AK-47 rifle in the car.

He was also charged with felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

However, troopers said they're still looking for the second person who ran away from the scene that was riding in the car with Brown, when the deadly crash took place at the intersection of State Road 44 and County Road 219 in Sumter County.

"Somebody knows who he is. Just tell somebody so they can get him, catch him. So they can get some kind of closure, some kind of justice for this. He can be punished," said Mary Price, Laura's sister-in-law.

"I would like to say you never know, the next day you might have a family member that's not there. So love each other, keep each other close," shared Jerry Price, Laura's brother-in-law.

Laura was the centerpiece of the Price family.

Price's children and husband are thankful for the time they had with her, but they're still in shock and searching for answers about why this happened.

"She did change my life. Absolutely. Made me a better person," Jack said.

Anyone with information about this case, including the whereabouts of the second person in the car, is asked to call the Sumter County Sheriff's Office or the Florida Highway Patrol.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to pay for Laura Price's funeral expenses.
