  • Gunman missed the deputy, hit a home in the Pine Hills area
  • 2 people being questioned, additional suspects sought

Investigators are questioning two young men found fleeing the area of Wyndham Lane near Silver Star Road around 2:30 a.m.

Deputies were actively patrolling the Pine Hills neighborhood when they saw a white Honda Accord that they said was driving suspiciously.

One deputy decided to follow the car down Wyndham Lane.

That's when investigators say someone reached out the driver side window and opened fire, missing its target. Instead the bullets went right through a home, into a bedroom where the homeowners were sleeping. No one was hurt.

"I knew it was very close to my house," said neighbor Naida Harris. "So I ran and checked on my kids to make sure that they were OK and then I peered through a window and saw a car right across the street."

Moments later that suspicious car crashed just half a mile away. Police were able to apprehend two suspects, but two or three others ran off.

The sheriff's office is still searching for those suspects.

Harris can't believe how close her family came to being the ones with bullets in their windows.

"You want to know that your children are safe that your family is safe," Harris said. "And it is scary that it happened right here in front of my family's home."

If you know anything about the whereabouts of the suspects, you're asked to call the Orange County Sheriff's Office directly.
