MegaCon Orlando has donated $18,405.21 to Equality Florida, in honor of the Pulse nightclub shooting victims.

The money was raised during special “Love is Love” events the convention held in May.

MegaCon partnered with DC Comic’s Marc Andreyko and his Love is Love project for a weekend of events to honor victims of the Pulse nightclub massacre. The events, held during Mega Convention, included a cocktail reception, book signing and live art auction. Top comic industry talent were in attendance, including George Perez, Gail Simone and Cat Staggs.

“We are so grateful for the fundraising event MegaCon hosted supporting our Honor Them With Action campaign that we launched in the aftermath of Pulse to uproot anti-LGBTQ discrimination and violence,” said Nadine Smith, CEO of Equality Florida, in news release. “The compassion and support shown by MegaCon and the contributors of the Love is Love comic anthology have been an inspiration.”

Publisher IDW and DC Comics teamed up for “Love is Love” in response to the nightclub shooting.

Andrekyo’s anthology features work from more than 300 comic book creators, with all proceeds going to Pulse victims, survivors and their families. An exclusive print of the book was sold at MegaCon Orlando.

Since its release, the 144-page anthology has garnered critical and fan praise, even appearing at the top of the New York Times bestsellers list for graphic novels.
