They call it the biggest night for television and it took over an L.A. theater: The 2017 Emmy Awards have come to a close.

Online, audiences seemed to think host Steven Colbert did a pretty good job filling the shoes of last year's host Jimmy Kimmel.

But, as many may have guessed, there were some political jabs aimed squarely at President Donald Trump.

Among the big winners, NBC sketch show, Saturday Night Live, won nine awards, which was the most of any show.

Actor Alec Baldwin won a comedy-supporting actor Emmy for his impersonation of the president. Last week, actress Melissa McCarthy picked up one at the creative arts Emmy Awards for her portrayal of ex-White House press secretary, Sean Spicer.

And the man himself even made a surprise appearance.

“Is there anyone who can say how big the audience is? Sean, do you know?" quipped host Colbert.

"This will be the largest audience to witness an Emmy, period," said Spicer, after gliding onto stage on a moving podium.

Jokes aside, there were some historical moments, too, such as Donald Glover becoming the first black person to win Outstanding Directing in a comedy series.

Plus, female-centric shows, from “A Handmaid’s Tale,” to Big Little Lies,” with Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon, raked in the awards.
