Rayven Annette Russell of Dunnellon has been charged with one count of aggravated child abuse.

Child welfare investigators called Marion detectives Aug. 20 about a possible child abuse case, the Sheriff's Office said Friday in a news release.

Detectives who went to the hospital where the baby was said they found that the 1-month-old had multiple injuries, including bruising on his chest, back, leg and neck areas; bleeding inside the brain; and brain injuries.

Doctors said the baby had been brought to the hospital by Russell and determined that the child had been injured about a day earlier.

According to the Sheriff's Office, Russell admitted to shaking the baby, telling detectives that she was frustrated with the boy because he wouldn't stop crying.

Russell is being held in the Marion County Jail on $10,000 bond.

The child has been released from the hospital and is in the custody of a medical caregiver.
