Puerto Rico has declared a state of emergency and activated the National Guard in advance of Hurricane Irma.

The U.S. territory is under a hurricane warning, which means hurricane conditions are expected in the area in the next 36 hours.
The governor of Puerto Rico said the government would operate Tuesday morning until noon to make sure protection plans for public property are carried out.
A freeze of profit margins for basic necessities, including food, medicine and hurricane supplies has been instituted.
Hundreds of shelters have been made available, and they will have space for pets.
Hurricane Irma is currently forecast to pass near or over Puerto Rico between Wednesday and Thursday, possibly as a major hurricane.
