Kern C. Cox, 37, of Ormond Beach was arrested Tuesday afternoon after an investigation into what Volusia County Sheriff's deputies say happened the night of Dec. 14.

According to investigators, the teen boy came forward to a supervisor at Stewart-Marchman-Act Behavioral Healthcare in December. He said that on the night in question, Cox asked him to come to his office, where he was shown a pornographic video and asked to perform a sex act.

Cox denied the allegations, but investigators said surveillance video at the facility that night and Cox's cell phone corroborate the details provided by the boy.

Cox was briefly a chorus teacher at Mainland High late last year but was reassigned Dec. 19 after the school was notified of an investigation by the Department of Children and Families, Volusia County Schools said. He was fired Feb. 2. The school district said he was a music teacher in 2006-07 and was approved to substitute teach in 2007-08, 2008-09 and 2009-10. He had no other prior complaints, the district said.

Cox was being held at the Volusia County Branch Jail on $50,000 bond.
