The eastbound Interstate 4 on-ramp from Universal Boulevard in the Orlando area will be closed for five months, the Florida Department of Transportation says.

The closure went into effect early Monday morning.

The ramp closure is intended to make it safer for construction crews to continue work on the the Kirkman Road (State Road 435) and I-4 interchange, FDOT said.

The closure is part of the $2.3 billion "I-4 Ultimate" project, which is  reconstructing 21 miles of interstate from west of Kirkman Road to east of State Road 434 in Longwood.
