On Tuesday, Orange County leaders are hoping to improve safety for pedestrians and bicyclists along Pine Hills Road.
- Study suggests improving street lighting, designated crosswalks
- Pedestrians observed walking in-between traffic
A 3.6 mile stretch of Pine Hills Road from Colonial Drive to Bonnie Brae Circle has been designated a high-crash corridor.
Several people were seen by Spectrum News 13 walking in-between traffic, out of crosswalks, to pass the busy road.
A study unveiled suggests improving street lighting, raising mediums and creating channelizing devices to guide pedestrians to designated crosswalks.
"I had an experience where I was in the crosswalk and she just came out of nowhere and thank God she stopped, because it was a couple of feet from me," says pedestrian Calvin Hawkins.
The measures total $5.9 million dollars in improvements. Right now, Orange County only has $2 million set aside to help Pine Hills Road.
The County Commission will hold a work session on the issue around 2 p.m., Tuesday.
