The Orlando Police Department has confirmed that a Lake Nona High School student was the shooting victim found dead in a Lake Nona neighborhood.

The shooting happened early Saturday morning at the 9200 block of Kensington Row Court, less than five miles from where K'vonte Dowe went to high school.

Police are still trying to figure out what led to the death of Dowe, who turned 18 in December. Late Sunday night, police identified Dowe as the young person found shot dead along Kensington Row Court.

They also say the shooting death does not appear to be random.

Around 12:49 Saturday morning, someone in the area called 911 saying they heard gunshots and saw someone lying down in the street. Moments later, police found Dowe in a cul-de-sac in the Northlake Park townhouse community, just off of North Narcoossee Road.

Multiple neighbors told Spectrum News 13 they heard two series of shots.

Orlando Police have released only limited details and won't say whether they have a suspect in the case.

A spokeswoman with Orlando County Public Schools confirmed Dowe enrolled in classes October 2, 2017.

Lake Nona High School is providing grief counselors to students. Principal Martha Chang sent a recorded message to parents.

“We are deeply saddened to learn about the death of one of our students. Our thoughts are with the family as they go through this difficult time,” Chang said. “Students have varied reactions to the death of a peer. Any reaction is normal, and I encourage to openly discuss with your child their feelings and reactions.”
