Central Florida is being warned of severe weather in the area Tuesday, and that includes Brevard County and the beaches.

The potential threat has officials on alert, ready to make sure tourists and locals are safe on the beach.

A potentially severe system will roll across the Sunshine State and onto the coast, bringing with it strong winds from 60-70 mph, rain and possible tornadoes.

Brevard Ocean Rescue lifeguards are prepared to fly the double red flag and clear the sand of patrons if lighting or strong wind roars through.

The Haas family of Indianapolis is here on a week-long spring break trip.

Tuesday was a pleasant day on the Space Coast, as spring breakers, families and even locals take advantage of the cooler temperatures and flat waves easing onto the sand.

So far so good for beach weather, but they are hearing things are about to change.

"I like that the lifeguards are here. I have kids, and sometimes it's hard to keep track of all of them," said Robert Haas.

Local hotels are also leaving letters with their guests to warn them of the possible rough conditions Tuesday. Most of them are packed with spring breakers.

Just last August, a confirmed micro-burst with winds up to 60 mph slammed into the Cocoa Beach Pier, ripping off part of the roof and causing structural damage.

Three people were slightly hurt, and the pier was closed for two days while repairs were made.
