A South Korean delegation says, after talks with North Korea, the North's leader, Kim Jong Un is eager to meet with President Trump.

And President Trump says he wants to have this meeting by May.

A South Korean delegation spent hours with U.S. officials on the outcome of a recent meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

President Trump this afternoon then made a surprise appearance in the White House briefing room to announce that South Korea's national security adviser would be making a major statement.

The announcement caught even Trump administration officials by surprise.

The South Korean delegation says the policy of pressure against the North played a role in bringing Kim Jong Un to the table on talks.

They said Kim was interested in talking about denuclearization and ending nuclear testing in the Korean Peninsula.

South Korea's National Security Director Chung Eui-young said North Korea will "refrain from any further nuclear or missile tests."

North Korea and the United States have been in a formal state of war since the 1950s.
