The Florida Orchestra's new record label, TFO Live, released its first album from the 2013 Holiday Pops Live concerts held at the Mahaffey.

"We did two live performances," said principal pops conductor Jeff Tyzik. "I produced the CD, coordinated the entire project and it’s the first CD that’s on their own label. So, the orchestra is putting this out as their own project."

Tyzik said the 10 track, 33 minute album, takes a jazzier approach to your favorite holiday songs.

"We certainly had their favorite tunes just kind of done in a little different way," he said. "It’s nice to kind of shake things up a bit."

The Holiday Pops Live album costs $10 and is available at floridaorchestra.org, at the orchestra's St. Petersburg office and at this year's show.

"All that revenue comes back to the musicians and the orchestra," Tyzik said. "Helps keep this orchestra in business."

This year's concerts called Home For the Holidays is much more traditional, according to Tyzik. The Friday night show at the Straz in Tampa is sold out but there's still a few tickets available for the Saturday shows at the Mahaffey in St. Petersburg and Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater.

"Sometimes people say, they walk out of a concert and they go, ‘hey, is this going to be available tonight on CD?’" Tyzik said. "But the process really is a 6-to-8 month process to actually go from recording the notes to getting it into this beautiful CD form."
