Filmmakers are taking a closer look at the St. Petersburg sewage dumping scandal.

Months after winning re-election last year, St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman continued to receive criticism for the sewage scandal. The documentary, titled St. Pete Unfiltered, is about the city’s sewage spills from 2015-17 and is playing at the Gasparilla International Film Festival.

Directed by Caroline Smith and Evan Smith, the film claims the city has perpetrated 89 felonies and 103 misdemeanors against the citizens of St Pete by dumping more than 1 billion gallons of sewage into the bay and lying about it.

A preview of the film played at USF St. Pete Monday night.

The Gasparilla Film Festival runs March 20-25 with films, parties, workshops and events at multiple locations in and near downtown Tampa.
