It's the classic story of two star-crossed lovers from feuding families who would do anything to be together. Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet is now playing at Williams Park in St. Petersburg.

But, this show isn't like anything you've seen before.

Fighting with lifesabers was definitely not in Shakespeare's original script, but the the St. Petersburg Shakespeare Festival hopes this unique take, setting the story in a Galaxy Far Far Away, will give audiences a new exposure to the classic tale.

"It's the oldest love stories, one of the oldest love stories. Almost everyone knows about Romeo and Juliet," Director Stephen Ray said.

"We like to do a modern adaptation a modern take on how things are," he added.

This is the second show the festival has performed this season in Williams Park, featuring a cast of veteran actors and some stepping out on stage for the first time.

"It's a really great cast. Everybody is really dedicated to the characters and making sure that it's honest," McKenzie Pollock, who played Juliet, explained.

It doesn't cost a thing to see the production, which the company hopes will allow more people to get the chance to experience the show.

"I think it's great that people can walk up and see a little bit and hear the language," Pollock explained.

The show starts at 8 p.m. each night, Thursday-Sunday, until March 25.
