IRMA: Disney World, Universal, other theme parks

In addition to public schools, colleges and universities, Florida theme parks and attractions have also announced closures.

Walt Disney World

In anticipation of Hurricane Irma, Walt Disney World will begin closing its theme parks Saturday evening, and remain closed through Monday, Sept. 11. Resort hotels will remain open. Disney hopes to resume normal operations on Tuesday, Sept. 12.  

Adjusted times for Disney World theme parks and resorts:

  • Disney’s Animal Kingdom: Closing early Saturday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. through Monday, Sept. 11
  • Disney’s Hollywood Studios: Closing early Saturday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. through Monday, Sept. 11. Fantasmic and Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular performances are canceled.
  • Epcot: Closing early Saturday, Sept. 9 at 9 p.m. through Monday, Sept. 11. Illuminations Reflections of Earth is canceled for Saturday.
  • Magic Kingdom: Closing early Saturday, Sept. 9 at 9 p.m. through Monday, Sept. 11. Happily Ever After fireworks canceled for Saturday.
    • Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party has also been canceled for Sunday, Sept. 10.
  • ESPN Wide World of Sports: Closed Saturday, Sept. 9 through Monday, Sept. 11.
    • Due to Hurricane Irma, Night of Joy has been canceled for Saturday, Sept. 9. Performances will still take place Friday.
  • Disney's Blizzard Beach water park will be closed Sept. 8 through Sept. 11.
  • Disney's Typhoon Lagoon: Closing early Saturday, Sept. 9 at 5 p.m. through Monday, Sept. 11.
  • Disney Springs: Closing early Saturday, Sept. 9 at 9 p.m. through Monday, Sept. 11.
  • Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground will be closed starting 2 p.m. Sept. 9.

Universal Orlando

Universal Orlando Resort will close at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9 and remain closed on Sunday and Monday. The park plans to resume normal operating hours on Tuesday, Sept. 12.

Universal's on-site hotels are at capacity, but will remain operation for on-site guests.

Rock the Universe events scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 9 have been canceled. 

SeaWorld Orlando/Busch Gardens

SeaWorld Orlando will close early on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 5 p.m. The park will remain closed Sunday and Monday. Aquatica Orlando will also be closed Saturday through Monday. Discovery Cove will be closed Sunday and Monday.

Busch Gardens Tampa Bay will be closed Saturday, Sept. 9 through Monday, Sept. 11. Adventure Island will be also be closed Sept. 9-11.

Legoland Florida

Legoland's theme park and water park will be closed Saturday, Sept. 9 through Monday, Sept. 11. Legoland Hotel will remain open for arriving guests. Legoland Beach Retreat guests will be relocated to Legoland Hotel.

Other Attractions

Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex will be closed Friday, Sept. 8 through Tuesday, Sept. 12 in anticipation of Hurricane Irma. During the closure, visitors will not be allowed onto the visitor complex grounds.

The Coca-Cola Orlando Eye will be closed starting Sept. 9 and remained closed until the storm passes.

The Crayola Experience, located in the Florida Mall will close at 6 p.m. Friday in anticipation of Irma and will remain closed through the weekend. Officials expect to resume normal operations on Monday, Sept. 11.

The I-Drive 360 entertainment complex will close to the public on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 4 p.m. An update will be released once I-Drive 360 announces a reopening date.

Medieval Times Florida will be closed Saturday, Sept. 9 through Monday, Sept. 11.

Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts has canceled the Sept. 12 performance of "The King and I" in anticipation of Hurricane Irma. All other performances are expected to go on as scheduled.
