Watching them play in a yard in St. Cloud, it's easy to see why Morris, Clyde, Ben, Wookie and Simon were picked for the super bowl of puppy sports.

  • Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl XIV airs Sunday at 3 p.m.
  • 7 Florida Little Dog Rescue pets are in the lineups
  • Rescue is hosting a Tail-gate on Sunday

Animal Planet's Puppy Bowl XIV airs Sunday at 3 p.m. The five furry, rough and tumble puppies were part of 13 sent to the Puppy Bowl by Florida Little Dog Rescue, a Central Florida-based group that rescues from local shelters.

Seven of the puppies made the starting and backup lineups:

  • Clyde, a Corgi
  • Mr. Wigglesworth, a Shar-Pei
  • Joker, a Shih Tzu
  • Morris, a Pomeranian
  • Ellie, a Great Dane
  • Ben, a Cavalier King Charles
  • Violet, a French Bulldog

Six more got to be part of Animal Planet marketing and other Puppy Bowl-related activities, including a virtual reality section of the Animal Planet website with "Puppy Bowl Training Camp."

On top of putting the spotlight on shelter pets and the variety of dogs that can be found at shelters and pet rescues, Animal Planet is also shining a spotlight this year on pets affected by last year's three hurricanes.

This year there will also be a spotlight on older shelter dogs with the first-ever "Dog Bowl." Florida Little Dog Rescue field players for that event as well.

Some of the Puppy Bowl stars will be available for "pawtographs" Sunday at the Puppy Bowl Tail-gate in Orlando, hosted by Florida Little Dog Rescue. The party starts at 2 p.m. at Vanbarry's Public House on South Orange Avenue in Orlando.

By the way, Wookie and Simon are still up for adoption. You can learn more about them on the FLDR website.
