Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2019.

  • Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway to open in 2019
  • Riders will go inside the "wacky" world of a cartoon short
  • Attraction replaces The Great Movie Ride

Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek made the announcement during Disney’s D23 Expo Japan.

On the Mickey Mouse-themed attraction, riders will travel through a movie screen and experience the world of a cartoon short.

Riders will experience several “surprising twists and turns” as they encounter characters such as Goofy.

Disney is calling the attraction a “2 1/2 D” experience.

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway will feature a new story and a new theme song created for the attraction.

The attraction was first announced last July during the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California.

Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway replaces The Great Movie ride, which closed in August.

Next year is set to be a big year for Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

In addition to the new Mickey-themed ride, the theme will welcome Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge—a 14-acre land. A version of the land will also open at Disneyland in California.
