Berkeley Prep sophomore linebacker Joe Schiano has been suspended six weeks after being ejected from his team's 31-19 win over Lennard Sept. 28, the FHSAA told Bright House Sports Network.

Schiano, the son of Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Greg Schiano, sat out his team's game Friday against St. Petersburg Catholic. Schiano was ejected for curisng at an official late in Friday's game, a Level 2 offense, according to the FHSAA. The school is appealing the initial six-game ruling.

Berkeley Prep is awaiting the results of the appeal from the FHSAA, as well as the West Coast Officials Association, and should receive word in the next couple of days.

Athletic Director Bobby Reinhart and head coach Dominick Ciao have both declined to comment until a decision has been reached on the appeal.

Plant's Reeves Rogers, Freedom's Nate Godwin and Largo's Harry Brown have all served suspensions in 2012. Godwin and Brown won their appeals, reducing their suspensions.
