Orlando Magic Senior Vice President Pat Williams took some time out of his hectic schedule to chat with Bright House Sports Network's David Baumann regarding the outlook on the Orlando Magic offseason, Dwight Howard's future with the team and discuss his personal health improvements.

Williams co-founded the Orlando Magic in 1986 and has been part of the team in several capacities since its inception in 1989.  The Magic patriarch says that no season measured up to the drama of this past year.

"It was a weird season, it was a bizarre season and nobody wants to go through that again," Williams told BHSN.

Magic CEO Alex Martins announced the team's decision to part ways with head coach Stan Van Gundy and general manager Otis Smith Monday.

"Alex (Martins) has big decisions (on the front office search)," Williams said.  "I've let him know I'm there for him.  It has been difficult because he knew Otis for more than 20 years and everybody loved Stan. But, like Alex said, it's time for a new direction and a new face. It's an unbelievable opportunity for him to put his stamp on this thing."

Williams says he will be on-call for any assistance Martins may need throughout the hiring process, but will superstar Dwight Howard be asked to help in the hiring process?

"No," Williams replied, when asked if Howard will get a chance to hand-pick the next GM and/or head coach.  "Alex has made that abundantly clear.  Listen, we want Dwight Howard in a Magic jersey for life, there's no doubt about that.  But, he needs to decide what he wants."

It had been reported that Magic Director of Player Personnel Adonal Foyle was being groomed to become the team's next GM.  One report went so far to suggest Foyle had already interviewed for the Magic GM job before Otis Smith had 'parted ways' with the team, a notion that Foyle publicly denied.  However, will the Colgate-educated Foyle get consideration for the GM job now that the vacancy is public knowledge?  "I don't know and I'm not sure if he has even applied," Williams told BHSN. "He has been working really hard.  I do know he wants to pursue a front office job."

"Alex has said his phone has been ringing off the hook," Williams said regarding the job openings.  "There will be no shortage of candidates."

On a personal note, Williams has been battling multiple myeloma for the past year and has endured strenuous radiation therapy to combat the blood disease.  He is making steady improvements.  "I'm feeling much better," Williams told BHSN.  "I'm making progress.  The doctors are pleased with my blood numbers.  The reports are good each week.  I continue to write, I continue to speak and I'm holding regular hours.  I'm resting well -- I'll take a nap when needed, but I don't need to nap much anymore."

After all, there have never been enough hours in a day for the "always busy" author/motivational speaker/professional sports executive to take a nap.  It seems like it's back to "business as usual" for the 72-year-old sports fanatic.

One more note -- Williams wanted to pass along this message to Magic fans:  "Be patient.  Hang in there.  Everything will work out really well."

Sure sounds like his own personal mantra.
