Former Central Florida standouts look to earn playing time at UCF in 2012
Former Central Florida High School standouts Taylor Oldham (Warner Christian) and Drico Johnson (Agape Christian) are looking to earn playing time at UCF this fall. Both players are incoming Freshmen.
Here are some UCF players that are trying to earn playing time and even starting positions as the Knights' preseason camp nears on August 1st. Many of these players starred on Central Florida high scool teams.
Wide Receiver
RS Soph Josh Reese, Soph J.J. Worton, Soph Rannell Hall , Freshman Breshad Perriman Freshman Taylor Oldham (Warner Chr.) Freshman Drico Johnson (Agape Chr.)
-Reese played in 11 games with 5 starts and had 30 receptions for 461 yards and two touchdowns.
-Worton was selected to the 2011 C-USA All-Freshman Team and played in all 12 games. He set a UCF freshman record with 41 receptions. He finished last season with a team-high 531 yards and four touchdowns. Worton also returned 17 punts for 150 yards.
-Hall was the only freshman selected to the All-C-USA First Team last season.
-Perriman is an incoming freshman that picked UCF over schools such as Florida State, Miami, Cincinnati, Wyoming and FIU.
-Oldham was a two-way player at South Daytona Warner Christian. He had 111 receptions for 2,282 yards and 34 touchdowns and had 19 interceptions in his stellar high school career.
-Johnson has excellent size and looks to make immediate impact with the Knights. As a senior at Agape Christianl, he led the Central Florida area in receiving yards (1,052).
Outside LB
RS Senior Ray Shipman, Soph Troy Gray, Soph Willie Mitchell (Deltona Pine Ridge HS)
-Shipman is the likely starter as he appeared in 9 games with 2 starts in his first-full season playing football. Shipman also played basketball at Florida as a guard.
-Gray started the final 9 games for UCF in 2011, having appeared in all 12 games. He was named to the 2011 C-USA All-Freshman Team.
-Mitchell is a former standout at Deltona Pine Ridge who looked good in spring drills this offseason. He appeared in 3 games in 2011.
Cornerback
Soph Brandon Alexander (Evans), Soph Michael Easton (Winter Haven), Soph Jordan Ozerites (Mt. Dora), Freshman Jeremy Davis
-Alexander appeared in 10 games and started the final 5 games as and had 43 tackles along with 5 pass break ups.
-Easton is a former Bright House Sports Network Defensive Player of the Year and appeared in 3 games as a freshman at UCF last season.
-Ozerites was selected to the 2010 C-USA All-Freshman team. He missed the first half of the year due to an injury before working with the scout team.
-Davis was a highly-touted prospect who attended New York's Milford Academy in 2010. He also had a standout career at Cape Coral and Ft. Myers High Schools.
Defensive Tackle
Junior E.J. Dunston (Edgewater), RS Junior Josh Wofford (Palm Bay), Junior Jose Jose
RS Soph Andrew Rice (Lake Mary), Soph Demetris Anderson
-Dunston appeared in 11 games in 2011 with 3 starts and recorded 13 tackles. He also blocked an extra point last season.
-Wofford appeared in 8 games in 2011 with 4 starts.
-Jose played in 9 games started the final 5 games of the season.
-Rice hasn’t seen game action yet, but gained experience on the scout team.
-Anderson played in 10 games for Western Michigan last season.
