It was a longshot, but multiple reports say the NCAA ruled against letting Notre Dame transfer DE Aaron Lynch play the 2012 season with the Bulls.

Lynch will have to redshirt his sophmore season as a result of Thursday's ruling. He will still have 3 years of eligibility left beginning in 2013.

Lynch led the Irish as a true freshman last season with 5.5 sacks. His performance at Notre Dame earned him Freshman All-American honors.

But Lynch abruptly left Notre Dame this past spring and headed for USF in an effort  to be closer to his family and fiancé in Cape Coral.

He first came on the USF radar during his successful high school career at Island Coast. He had the coveted five-star rating and was ranked the 10th overall recruit last year.

USF was the first to offer him a written offer out of High School, but he chose Notre Dame instead.
