Dr. Phillips senior guard RaShawn Powell committed to Memphis on Saturday afternoon.

Powell, a 6-1 point guard who averaged 19 points and six assists per game last season, chose the Tigers over Illinois and Alabama.

"I feel Memphis will help me improve my game and the coaching staff will help me take my game to the next level and become a pro," Powell told ESPN.com.

He is ranked 90th overall in the ESPN 100, a list of the nation’s top recruits. Powell is also ranked by ESPN as the nation’s 22nd best recruit at his position.

He is one of the state’s quickest guards and has an uncanny ability to score in the paint. Powell was named to the Class 8A All-State second team after his junior season, during which he led the Panthers to district and Metro Conference titles.

Dr. Phillips begins the 2012-13 campaign with a pre-season game against Bartow on Nov. 11.
