St. Petersburg Catholic running back and FSU commit Ryan Green has suffered a season-ending shoulder injury, Ryan's father, Vader, confirmed to Bright House Sports Network Thursday.

Green, BHSN's No. 3-ranked Bay-Area football player, will have to sit out his senior season after suffering a torn laburm, an MRI revealed Thursday. Green injured the shoulder three games ago, but the pain proved to be too much this morning.

"They had a black and gold game, and he went to make a tackle and fell down on his shoulder," Vader Green said of how his son got injured. "He kept playing and, of course, he's played two other games since then. He woke up at 3 in the morning and told me his shoulder was hurting him really bad."

Ryan will have surgery on the shoulder Friday at 3 p.m. Vader Green said the recovery process can take about three months, and that his injury won't affect his comittment to Florida State.

"At that time, I called Florida State and let them know what was going on," Vader Green said. "Ryan is really broken up about it, so Jimbo Fisher talked to him and told him that the injury definitely doesn’t affect anything with Florida State and he’s definitely their guy still. He told him to concentrate on getting himself better."

Last season, Green rushed for 1,069 yards and 14 touchdowns. He was a standout performer at Nike's "The Opening" camp in Beaverton, Ore. this summer, and is ranked No. 34 on ESPN's Top 150 players list.

Green was also invited to the Under Armor All-America game, which will be played at Tropicana Field Jan. 5 at 8 p.m. The game is scheduled to be broadcasted on ESPN.

"I told him to look at the big picture, and to look at the big picture that's he's getting ready for school and the next level," Vader Green said. "It is unfortunate he's unable to finish his senior year, which I know is very hurtful for him...but unfortunately he has these speed bumps and you can't let those things stop you."

Green should be recovered in time for basketball season, Vader said. As for now, the Green's will focus on the rehab process.

"You know, everybody heals differently but I feel like there's no reason to rush him back," Vader Green said. "He's got nothing to prove...he's one of the best backs in the country, and I think he's proven that. He's a great guy character wise, and I'm proud of him. It's time to move on."
