Jeremiah Green continues to add to his trophy case.

Thursday night at the annual Vanguard Attorneys end-of-the-year awards banquet, the Hillsborough high school track star was named Hillsborough county’s athlete of the year.

The 2-sport star not only excelled on the football field and on the track, but Green also graduated with a 3.8 GPA.

One of 7 children, Green will be attending the University of Alabama on a full track scholarship.  Thanks to Vanguard, he’ll also have an additional five-hundred dollars to help contribute to his college expenses.

The triple-jumper won a second national championship this year with a jump of 51 feet, 6.5 inches, and he’s already looking ahead to his next goal; 55 feet.

That’s the distance required to qualify for the Olympic trials, and Green has his sights set on the 2016 games.

Danny Gaddis named Vanguard male coach of the year

It’s been a seven year labor of love for Lennard basketball head coach Danny Gadis.

And he’s starting to bear the fruits of his labor, coming off their best season in school history, Gadis was named Hillsborough County’s coach of the year at the annual Vanguard Attorney’s end-of-the-year award banquet.

Coming from a team that had no tradition and few athletes, Gadis has slowly built the Longhorns from an afterthought to a serious contender.  Lennard had just 2 district losses during the regular season, and both were to eventual state champion Jesuit.

Perhaps it’s because Gadis keeps a close eye on the pipeline of talent coming into the varsity program.

That’s because he also doubles as the junior varsity coach.

The busy coach says he’s excited about the future of the basketball team and the athletic programs in general at Lennard, and now he can go back to the school with a one-thousand dollar check to help continue to build the growing Longhorn tradition.

Not present at Thursday’s award ceremony was Armwood flag football coach Virginia Wright-Blair, who won the award for best female coach in Hillsborough county.
