WWE superstar Randy Orton has been known as the legend killer. Now, you can call him, actor.

Orton stars in Fox Home Entertainment’s “12 Rounds 2: Reloaded". Orton portrays an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) named Nick Malloy. Orton told me he's thrilled to be the star of this action thriller that's out on DVD and Blu-Ray today.

“Starring in my own movie, that’s a daydream for me,” said Orton, via satellite from New York. “I always thought it would be cool to be in a movie. It’s like pinch me, am I sleeping?”

Orton was fresh off a "Monday Night Raw" event from Hartford, CT, and was doing interviews promoting the flick. The third generation WWE wrestler is real familiar with Central Florida.

He’s visited the Florida Championship Wrestling facility in Tampa, and was at Full Sail University in Winter Park a couple of months ago to take part in their "NXT" program that showcases the company's up-and-coming performers.

“There’s a lot of talent down there,” said Orton. Orton came through the Ohio Valley Wrestling development program over a decade ago, with the likes of future megastars John Cena, Batista and Brock Lesnar. Even though he was raised in a highly successful wrestling family (his dad was “Cowboy” Bob Orton), he had to make his own way through the developmental system.

Orton has won 11 total championships at WWE, including being a 9 time world champ. I wanted to know how different it was acting from a script, compared to following a script in the ring for the WWE.

“In the WWE, you’ll have bullet points, though younger ones follow the script” said Orton. “As far as the movie, I just read it a lot.”

I asked the St. Louis resident if he would ever consider calling the Tampa Bay area home, since so many wrestlers and former wrestlers live here. He did say the year-round sunshine is tempting.

Orton is heading to Florida this weekend, albeit briefly. He's competing at live events in Fort Lauderdale, Lakeland and Jacksonville. The Lakeland show is Saturday night at the Lakeland Center, with Orton teaming with Daniel Bryan and The Miz to face The Shield in a six-man tag team match.
