The UCF football team is set on reaching new heights this season.

The Knights, who went 10-4 last season including 38-17 win over Ball State in Beef O’Brady’s Bowl, begin their inaugural season in the American Athletic Conference. UCF supporters got to shake hands with the players who are working to get it done on the field.

The Knights entered CFE Arena and were immediately greeted with pomp and circumstance. The Medieval themed-luncheon had a huge turnout.

Head Coach George O’Leary, who is entering his tenth season leading the program, had the support of former players like former UCF quarterback Daunte Culpepper and some current ones including Oviedo’s own Blake Bortles. O’Leary encouraged Knight Nation Thursday afternoon to charge on.

“Anytime you start off a new season it’s always exciting for the fan base, the players and obviously the coaching staff. Again, it’s a new season, new team, everything’s new and we’re looking forward to it,” he said.

It’s Bortles third year at UCF and the starting quarterback says each year the luncheon grows bigger and bigger.

“It’s great support and it makes us players feel good that these people are here to support us and hang out with us and do everything that they do for us and we thank them,” Bortles said.
