On a beautiful fall night, the Lake Mary Rams put their undefeated record on the line against district opponent Spruce Creek. However, the Hawks could not find an answer for Rams quarterback Cannon Thompson, who led the Rams to a 49-19 victory and an 8-0 record.

Thompson used his cannon of an arm and his legs to lead the Rams. On this momentous night, Cannon set the school record for most touchdown passes in a career, but this was not the only record broken tonight. Cannon’s top receiver Nick Westbrook had four touchdowns which set a new school record for most touchdown receptions in a single game.

“Our guys played hard and our offense is really clicking” Head Coach Scott Perry said after the game.

The Rams offense had 504 total yards; 128 on the ground and 376 yards through the air. Cannon Thompson has 118 of those rushing yards, including a long 53 yard run that set the Rams up for a touchdown. Nick Westbrook accounted for 295 receiving yards and four touchdowns on 11 catches. Each of

Westbrooks touchdowns were on receptions of 34 yards, 38 yards, 42 yards, and 80 yards.

To start the game it looked like Spruce Creek would hang tight with the Rams. On their opening drive the Hawks drove the ball 76 yards on nine straight running plays. Quarterback William Walter had 57 yards on this drive including a one yard touchdown run that put the Hawks on the scoreboard first. In total,

Walter carried the ball 18 times for 77 yards. The Hawks never gave up on the uphill battle. Even late in the game the Hawks had an 88 yard kickoff return from Andrew Spence and at ten yard touchdown run from Aaron Conner.

Next week the Rams will play for another district championship when they host 7-1 Orange City University. Spruce Creek falls to 4-4 and 2-3 in the district and will host the Lyman Greyhounds next week.
