The President’s Board Room at Jesuit High School was packed with friends, family, and well-wishers at 7:25am Wednesday, Nov. 12, as five standout student-athletes signed to play college athletics during a special ceremony.

School president Fr. Richard C. Hermes, S.J. congratulated the quintet on their accomplishments, and athletic director Terry Rupp ’84 encouraged them to be leaders and work even harder to achieve their goals in college.

Among the signees were several members of the state champion 2014 baseball team, who all will be signing with Atlantic Coast Conference schools: Pitcher-infielder Ronnie Ramirez (Florida State) and outfielder Kennie Taylor (Duke) were critical to Jesuit baseball’s state crown, with Taylor, who led the team in slugging percentage, scoring the go-ahead run in the 5-2 title-game win over Green Cove Springs Clay, and Ramirez earning the save. Pitcher Bobby Hearn (Wake Forest) and outfielder Cole Gibbs (North Carolina) also will play in the ACC in 2015.

The fifth signee, Stephano Mastro ’15 (Mount St. Mary’s), is Jesuit’s first Division I lacrosse signee and will be the school’s second DI lacrosse player (Evan Olsen ’08, Providence).

This is the first of three signing ceremonies scheduled for the 2014-15 school year. Over the past two years more than 40 Jesuit students have signed Letters of Intent to participate in college athletics.
