Kyshaun Bryan rushed for 156 yards and two touchdowns to lead Plantation American Heritage to a 38-0 win against Tallahassee Godby in the Florida high school Class 5A championship game.

American Heritage (12-3) won the Class 5A title for the second consecutive year. Godby, who won the Class 5A title in 2012, also finished 12-3.

The Patriots scored on their first two possessions of the game with long, time-consuming drives. Bryan, a sophomore, gave American Heritage a 7-0 lead on a 13-yard touchdown run to cap a 13-play, 92-yard drive.

On its second possession American Heritage extended the lead to 14-0 when quarterback Torrance Gibson threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Johnson. Gibson, who is verbally committed to Ohio State, was 7-of-15 for 138 yards and two touchdowns.

“I would say the second title is sweeter than the first one,” Gibson said. “We had to deal with a lot more adversity this time around but we stuck together as a team and played our best game of the season today.”

American Heritage broke the game open in the third quarter when Bryan broke a run to the right side and went 93 yards for the touchdown and a 21-0 lead.

“We ended (the first) half kind of bad by scoring and getting it called back,” Bryan said. “So coming out and scoring set the tone.”

The Patriots rushed for 300 yards and finished with 443 yards of total offense. Gibson also added a rushing touchdown and wide receiver Dredrick Snelson had three catches for 89 yards.

Godby quarterback Darius Bradwell struggled, going 6-of-12 for just 17 yards and two touchdowns. He rushed for 68 yards and P.J. Simmons had 62 yards on 11 carries.”

“We have a great group of kids and coaches who are going to work hard to get us back to this point,” Godby coach Todd Lanter said. “That's the thing about getting to this point -- you just want it so much more the next time.”
