HERNANDO - Crystal River High School had a nice showing friday at the District Track Meet in Hernando.  The 4 X 800 boys' relay team anchored by senior Brandon Harris took home first place despite having two runners who normally run the shorter distanced races.

Crystal River then continued to shine at the Pole Vault where Huyen Vo, Angela Byrne, and Hayley Clark all qualified for regionals when they cleared the 8-foot mark.  Byrne went on to set a school record when she cleared the bar at 11 feet, 8 inches.

Crystal River high jumper, Madison Winship, made it to the final two when she cleared the bar at 5 feet.  However, Lezareia Gilbert from Pasco took first place with a height of 5 feet, 2 inches.

Speaking of Pasco, Pirates long jumper Alfreda Steele destroyed the competition on her first jump.  When her heels hit the sand, she had covered 18 feet, 4 inches.  She wouldn't need any more jumps after that as she would hold on for the win thanks to one of her best jumps of the year.

On the boys side, it was mostly a three-man competition between Ridgewood's Josh Sojka, Thomas Kerman and South Sumter's Xavier Story.  Sojka stretched out to land at 20 feet, 3 inches, but Story had come in to the final with a distance of 21 feet, 8 inches.  In the end, that measurement would stand as the winner.

District winners now shift their focus towards Regionals.
