Academy of the Holy Names swimmer Shae Timmons is sticking to the water.

Timmons signed her letter of intent to the U.S. Naval Academy during at a ceremony at her school on Wednesday. Simmons was surrounded by her family and swimming friends, Coach Bill Shaffer and Lt. Commander Janel Brown.

Brown said more than 18,000 students applied to the Naval Academy and Timmons is one of only 1,200 to receive an appointment.

"Your school has produced an amazing student-athlete," Brown said. "We're excited to have her."

Last season for the Jaguars, Timmons helped the swim team finished third overall in the Class 2A state championships. She also collected a pair of bronze medals for her third-place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard medley relay.

Timmons will graduate from Academy of the Holy Names next month as the school's record holder in the 100-yard breaststroke.

She'll continue her swimming career at the Naval Academy, which she chose over Xavier, where she is looking forward to swimming against Division I competition.

"I went up there for summer seminar and got to meet with the team. I love the coaches there," Timmons said. "I also loved Xavier, but I just decided for my career, I wanted to serve."
