Several Hillsborough County student-athletes and coaches were honored for their commitments on and off the playing fields.

The Columbia Restaurant was filled with the best and the brightest at the annual Swope Rodante Vanguard Awards Banquet Tuesday night. Radio personality and former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Ian Beckles was the keynote speaker as the honorees were rewarded for their classroom and sports work, but also for their commitment to community service.

Leto High’s Robert Pizzio was selected the Male Coach of the Year, Freedom’s Michelle Davis won the Female Coach of the Year award and Wharton senior soccer standout Casey Ferguson won the MVP Award.
