They stand out. They excel. They rise above.

They are simply the best.

Throughout the school year, Bright House Sports Network honors athletes that stood out and rose to the occasion with our Athlete of the Week awards.

Now we’ve picked the best of the best.

From the three finalists, Jefferson’s Deiondre Porter, Mitchell’s Taylor Anderson and Southeast’s DeAngela Mathis, the Athlete of the Year was selected.

The 2014 Bright House Sports Network Athlete of the Year is Porter. He led Hillsborough County in passing and also won a silver medal in the long jump at the Class 3A Track and Field Championships. Anderson excelled in two sports also, winning gold in the 50 freestyle and the pole vault. Mathis helped lead her Seminoles basketball team to the Class 5A state title.

Porter was presented his award during a show that premiered on BHSN Wednesday afternoon and will re-air at 9:30 p.m. on Channel 47 and HD 1147. The Athlete of the Year Show is also available at Local On Demand, Ch. 999.
