Manatee High School officials picked a familiar face to replace legendary coach Joe Kinnan.

John Booth, the Bloomingdale Bulls head coach the past five seasons and Manatee alum, will be the Hurricanes new head football coach. Booth told his Bloomingdale players and administrators on Tuesday he was taking the Manatee job.

Booth replaces Kinnan, who helped lead the Hurricanes to five state titles and coached Booth when he played for Manatee.

Kinnan announced he is taking a leave of absence from coaching for health reasons. He has been on a leave of absence since December and did not coach the Hurricanes during spring, including their game against Haines City.

In his five seasons at Bloomingdale, Booth helped turned the program around, including helping produce the Bulls second winning season in school history last year.
