It was a good day for Jacksonville Jaguar fans to call out and play a little bit of hooky.

NFL training camp opened up on Friday at Everbank Field and was one of 13 sessions open to the public.

Blake Bortles spent the day taking notes and following Jaguars veteran quarterback Chad Henne’s pace.

“[I trying to] learn as much as I can from Chad and Ricky[Stanzie] as well,” Bortles said.

“Both of those guys are guys that have been around for a while. They’ve learned the ropes and know how to be a pro, how to take care of their body, how to prepare, study, do all these things and I kinda shadow those guys, take in what I can from them is huge.”

Head coach Gus Bradley has already named Henne as the Jaguars starting quarterback but certainly liked what he saw from former UCF QB Bortles on the first day of camp.

“I saw him take some risks out there,” Bradley said. “He threw an interception and he came back and threw a seam route with two guys at him and he put it right between them for a great throw. That tells me something, that he has no fear of failure. And that’s a real good sign for a quarterback.”
